Getting around

Air, rail, bus, taxi, motorcycle, pedicab, bicycle are very popular. Bus services are available between most cities with air-conditioned. Taxis are modern and inexpensive in the major cities. Motorbike/Scooter taxis are plentiful and inexpensive for short distances. Be careful with the prices. Self-drive is not recommended unless understand the driving habits, road systems and road signs.


Vietnam’s tropical climate varies from a region to another. The hot and rainy season is from June to September. In the North, the cold and humid weather occurs between November and March.


Loose cotton summer wear is recommended during hot season and waterproof footwear during rainy season. Thicker clothing may be needed during winter time in the North or at higher altitudes. Do not wear singlets or shorts when visiting holy temples.




Vietnamese is the official language. English, Mandarin/ Cantonese, French, Russian and Japanese are common.


The Vietnamese currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND).

Drinking water

Tap water should be avoided. Bottled mineral water can be purchased in most cities.


220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. Common power plugs are two round pins.





Passport must be valid for at least 6 months upon arrival. A return ticket is required.

Visa and Entry facilities

Most visitors need visa to enter Vietnam. Some nationalities of ASEAN countries, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Russia, France, UK, Germany, Spain and Italy can be exempted for a few weeks. Please consult the Embassy or your agent to check the regulation for your country.
