Getting Around
Getting around Hong Kong is easy with plenty of public transport including trams, taxis, ferries and the rail system.
Climate
Sub-tropical climate with distinct seasons. Spring lasts from March to mid May with temperatures range between 18oC - 27oC. Summer starts from late May to mid September, with temperatures range between 26oC - 33oC. Autumn begins from late September to early December with temperatures range between 18oC - 28oC. Winter lead off from mid December to February with temperatures range between 14oC - 20oC.
Language
Cantonese and English are the main medium of communication.
What To Wear
Loose fitting cotton clothing is recommended during Summer. Winter woollies may be required during the Winter season. A light sweater is helpful when staying in air-conditioned establishments. Formal suites are the norm when visiting on business. It is advisable to check beforehand on dress regulations.
Electricity
Hong Kong voltage is 220 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. The majority use three-prong, square-shaped power plugs.

Drinking Water
Bottled mineral water are available at supermarkets and grocers.
Passport Information
Valid passport required by all. Passport should be valid for at least six months even for those in transit to neighbouring countries. Return ticket required. Requirements may change at short notice. Contact the Embassy before departure.
Visa And Entry Facilities
Visitors from most countries can enter Hong Kong without a visa for periods of seven days to six months, depending on nationality. Check with any Chinese embassy or consulate for the latest status. Visas for mainland China can be obtained in Hong Kong through the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong or Travel Agency.
Banking
Major banks operate on Mondays to Fridays from 0900hrs to 1630hrs and Saturdays from 0900hrs to 1230hrs. Some banks and branches operate slightly longer hours and some banking services are not available an hour before closing.
Hong Kong Currency
The Hong Kong currency is available in dollars and cents. Dollar notes come in denominations of HK$10, HK$20, HK$50, HK$100, HK$500 and HK$1,000. Coins are in denominations of 10, 20 and 50 cents as well as HK$1, HK$2, HK$5 and HK$10. |
