Day 2 Ijen Crater
Early wake-up call for breakfast at the hotel before taking a ride in a four-wheel drive up the slope of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and one of the few rainforests in Java where giant ferns and big trees can be found. Stop at the Park Ranger's post before hiking further up the slope of the crater. An approximate two-hour hike is needed to ascend the rim of the crater along a shady track with amazing views. Take a rest on the edge of the crater at 2,883 metres altitude. The sulfuric lake reflects eerie colour over the surrounding walls to give an apocalypse-like impression. Men seeking the sulphur descend into the crater and climb back up along the dangerous rim with loads of up to 80kg on their shoulders. The crater observation will be held at leisure. Afterwards, drive back to the hotel for lunch and depart back to Bali in the afternoon.
