Getting Around
Various transportation modes are available for travel within the city as well as to the suburbs. All major towns in Malaysia offer well-developed public transportation systems like car rentals, taxis, buses and rail services.

Climate
Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with relative humidity level of 80% and temperature averaging 30oC. The rainy season starts when the north-east monsoon blows between October to March. The dry season occurs during the south-west monsoon between May to September.

Language
English, Tamil and Chinese with Bahasa Malaysia as the official language.

What To Wear
Comfortable and informal clothing in light cotton material or linen is most suitable. More formal dress code may be required for some establisments. It is advisable to check beforehand on dress regulations.

Electricity
Malaysia voltage is 240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. The power plugs used in Malaysia are of three-pin, square-shaped type. However, multiple adapters with round pins are easily available.

Drinking Water
It is safe to drink water in Malaysia after boiling.

Passport Information

Valid passport required by all. Passport should be valid for at least six months even for those in transit to neighbouring countries. Return ticket required. Requirements may change at short notice. Contact the Embassy before departure.

Visa And Entry Facilities
Two different types of visas, namely, 'Visa Without Reference' (VWTR) and 'Visa With Reference' (VWR) may be issued under different conditions. Overseas visitors who do not require visas for entry to Malaysia as tourists may be given social visit passes for specific time frames according to nationality upon their arrival in Malaysia. It is recommended to contact the Embassy or your tour agent regarding visa applications and requirements before leaving your country.

Banking
Banks operate from Mondays to Fridays from 0930hrs to 1500hrs and Saturdays from 0930hrs to 1200hrs. Banks are closed on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Most authorised money changers in hotels open on a 24-hour basis.

Malaysian Currency
The currency in Malaysia is the Ringgit which is available in notes and sen. Ringgit notes come in denominations of RM1, RM2, RM5, RM10, RM50 and RM100. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 sen.
