Davao

Davao is located on the southeastern portion of Mindanao. The Davao region is famous for its picturesque landscapes and white sandy beaches all over its provinces.

Samal Island in Davao Del Norte has a number of excellent resorts, including one that was once a pearl farm. There are numerous fine beaches that provide good opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Davao del Sur is home to the Philippine Eagle Research and Nature Center which takes care of the world's largest eagle and the country's national bird - the Philippine Eagle. Visit the Crocodile Park, the habitat for grisly crocodiles, including the country's largest crocodile, named 'Pangil', and various breeds of birds from the Philippine Sea Eagle to Kaka Toe and Indonesian parrots. It is also famous for a range of trekking experiences. Mount Apo, the highest point in the Philippines, has a peak that towers over the Davao plain, dominating the horizon for kilometres around.

See the magnificent waterfalls in Davao Oriental, appearing like a stairway to the sky in various heights. One of the most famous is the Aliwagwag falls in Cateel which is considered to be the highest in the country.

Maragusan in the province of Compostella Valley is Davao's traditional summer capital. It is home to the ethnic Mansaka community where you can witness the tribe's authentic dances, native tribal jewellery, musical instruments as well as their antique bells and gongs.

Davao is one of the gateway cities to the Philippines, aside from Manila and Cebu, and has both an international and domestic airport to welcome travellers to the Mindanao region.
