Getting Around
Meter-based and fixed rate taxis are widely available in key cities. For a more local flavour, hop on the flamboyant jeepneys or buses which are inexpensive ways of getting around most places. In Metro Manila, the fastest way of commuting is via the Light Rail and Metro Rail Transit Systems.

Climate
The hot and dry season can be experienced from March to May, while the rainy season starts around June to October. Enjoy the cool season from November to February. The average temperatures range between 25oC - 32oC with a humidity of 77%.

Language
Filipino which is based on Tagalog, is the national language. But English is widely used throughout the country.

What To Wear
Light casual clothes are recommended. Warmer garments are needed for mountain regions. Casual clothing is acceptable in churches, business offices, dining establishments and hotels. But shorts and slippers are deemed improper. Formal occasions call for dinner jackets and ties (or barong tagalong, the Philippine national costume) for men, and cocktail dresses or long gowns for women.

Electricity
The standard voltage in the Philippines is 220 volts. The power plugs used are the two-pin, flat-shaped type. Most hotels have 110 volts outlets.

Drinking Water
Bottled or mineral water is available in many hotels, restaurants, resorts, supermarkets, groceries and convenience stores.

Passport Information
Valid passport required for all. Passport should be valid for at least six months even for those in transit to neighbouring countries. Return ticket required.

Visa And Entry Facilities
Most visitors may enter the country without visas for a period of 21 days if they hold a valid ticket for their onward journey, except for stateless persons and for those from countries without diplomatic relations with the Philippines. Holders of Hong Kong and Taiwan passports must have special permits. It is recommended to contact the Philippine Embassies and Consulates or your travel agent regarding visa applications, special permits and requirements before leaving your country.

Banking
Generally, banking hours are Mondays to Fridays from 0900hrs to 1500hrs.

Philippine Currency
The monetary unit is the Philippine peso (PHP), divided into 100 centavos. Peso notes are in denominations of PHP20, PHP50, PHP100, PHP200, PHP500, and PHP1,000. Coins are in denominations of 5, 10 and 25 centavos as well as PHP1, PHP5 and PHP10.
