Climate
The climate is humid with average temperature of 29oC - 32oC.
Language
Maldivian Divehi, English, German, French and Italian are spoken.
What To Wear
Light clothes are recommended. Women are advised to wear modest clothing without baring too much in the main capital, Male or on other inhabited islands.
Electricity
Three-pin, round-shaped power plugs with electric voltage of 230-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second are used.
Drinking Water
Each resort has its own water desalination plant and bottled mineral water is readily available.
Passport, Visa And Entry Facilities
Valid passport is required by all. Passport should be valid for at least six months. Return ticket is required. Visas are granted free for 30 days upon arrival in Maldives with a valid passport or proper travel documents. It is recommended to contact the Embassy or your tour agent regarding passport information, visa applications and requirements beforehand.
Banking
Generally, banks operate from Sundays to Thursdays and half days on Saturdays. Weekends fall on Fridays to Saturdays. Do check with the intended bank upon arrival in Maldives for operating hours.
Maldives Currency
The Maldivian currency is in Rufiyaa (MRf) and Laaree. One Rufiyaa is equivalent to 100 Laarees. Notes come in denominations of MRf5, MRf10, MRf20, MRf50, MRf100 and MRf500. Coins are available from 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Laarees as well as MRf1 and MRf2. |
