Getting Around
Principal towns and places of tourist interest are well connected.

Climate
The average temperature at Low Lands is 27oC and in the Central Hills, 14oC. Rain is expected in the western, southern and central regions from May to July and in the north and east from December to January.

Language
Sinhala, Tamil and English are widely spoken.

What To Wear
Light summer clothes recommended. Formal dress code may be required for some establisments.

Electricity
In Sri Lanka, three-pin, round-shaped power plugs with voltage of 230-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second are used.

Drinking Water
Bottled mineral water is recommended for consumption.

Passport, Visa And Entry Facilities
For nationals of most countries, visas are issued upon arrival for 30 days with a valid passport or proper travel documents. Do contact the Embassy or your tour agent regarding passport information, visa applications and requirements beforehand.

Banking
Generally, banking hours are Mondays to Saturdays from 0900hrs to 1300hrs or 1500hrs.

Sri Lanka Currency
The Sri Lanka currency is in Rupees (Rs) and cents (Cts) with 100 cents equal to one rupee. Currency notes are available in denominations of Rs10, Rs20, Rs50, Rs100, Rs200, Rs500, Rs1,000 and Rs2,000. Coins are in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents as well as Rs1, Rs2, Rs5 and Rs10.
