Getting Around
Travel around Vietnam by rail, bus, car, taxi, motorcycle, cyclos, bicycle or foot.
Climate
The cold season occurs during November to April and the hot season starts from May to October. Slight difference in temperature may be experienced from north to south areas or from low to high altitudes.
Language
English, Chinese, French, Russian and Japanese, with Vietnamese being the official language.
What To Wear
Loose cotton clothes are recommended during hot seasons and waterproof footwear is best during rainy seasons. Thicker clothing may be needed during colder seasons or at higher altitudes. Do not wear singlets or shorts when visiting holy shrines.
Electricity
The electrical current is 220 volts AC, 50 cycles per second.
Common Courtesies
Always be polite and never loose your temper. Expect things to take longer than expected. Avoid placing the locals in a position where he or she has to admit being wrong.
Drinking Water
Tap water should be avoided. Bottled mineral water can be purchased at major cities.
Passport Information
Valid passport required by all. Passport should be valid for at least six months even for those in transit to neighbouring countries. Return ticket required. Requirements may change at short notice. Contact the Embassy before departure.
Visa And Entry Facilities
Most visitors require visas to enter Vietnam. It is recommended to contact the Embassy or your tour agent regarding visa applications and requirements before leaving your country.
Working Hours
From Mondays to Fridays, Government agencies work from 0730hrs to 1630hrs and banks open from 0730hrs to 1130hrs and 1300hrs to 1600hrs. Public holidays, Saturdays and Sundays are closed.
Vietnamese Currency
The Vietnamese unit of currency is the dong (VND). Dollar notes are in denominations of VND100, VND200, VND500, VND1,000, VND2,000, VND5,000, VND10,000, VND20,000, VND50,000, VND100,000 and VND500,000. Coins are in denominations of 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000. |
