Bamboo Experience in Luang Prabang

The Bamboo Experience is a local family-run workshop where you will discover Lao culture through bamboo products, activities, and Lao foods using bamboo shoots as main ingredients. You will also be connected with our local community to learn about their way of life!

The Bamboo Experience’, a rustic pavilion modeled on a traditional Lao house, perched in a picturesque setting next to rice paddy fields. Enjoy an introduction to the importance of bamboo to Lao culture and to the use of bamboo in a diverse range of household items found in rural Lao dwellings.

During today’s experience, you will engage in a relaxing bamboo weaving activity where you’ll weave a souvenir mat made from strips of bamboo using a technique that has been practiced for centuries.

After learning about the importance of bamboo and how it’s used to make everyday items in Laos, we get hands-on again for a fun, interactive cooking class, using the bamboo shoot as a key ingredient. Make dishes such as bamboo shoot soup, bamboo shoot steamed in banana leaf, bamboo shoot dip, and more. We wind down the day with a delicious meal (made by you) and photo opportunities of semi-rural Laos from the relaxing pavilion terrace.
