Theatre Residence stands on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, in one of Bangkok’s oldest neighbourhoods opposite the Grand Palace and beside the royal temple Wat Rakang. Once known as Patravadi Theatre, the site was Bangkok’s first open air theatre and a centre for contemporary performing arts before its conversion into a serviced residence on the river.
Contemporary low rise architecture and open spaces connect with temples, markets and river life around Wang Lang. Fully furnished rooms and suites share an open air swimming pool on the riverbank, giving guests a relaxed base between visits to nearby museums, temples and historic streets. Theatre Riverside Restaurant and Theatre Cafe provide on site dining, from riverside cocktails and dinners with landmark views to simple single dish Thai favourites, coffee and seasonal juices.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Guests stay within Old Bangkok yet avoid the busiest riverfront strips. From Tha Wat Rakang pier it is a short ferry ride to Rattanakosin Island, the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, with Chinatown and Khao San Road reached easily by tuk tuk. The setting works well for travellers who want a cultural riverside base with authentic neighbourhood life, while still enjoying hotel style comforts and professional service.
