Indonesia Travel Update: Anak Krakatau

Tour East is sharing the latest Anak Krakatau travel update following recent volcanic activity in the Sunda Strait.
According to Indonesia’s Geological Agency, Anak Krakatau remained at Level III (Siaga) as of 11 September 2026. The continuous eruption episode recorded from 4 to 6 September has ended, although volcanic activity remains under close monitoring.
Anak Krakatau Travel Update: Current Status
The Geological Agency continues to restrict access within a 3-kilometre radius of the volcano’s active centre. Visitors and tourism activities should remain outside the restricted area and follow guidance from Indonesian authorities.
While activity has decreased from the continuous eruption period, further eruptions remain possible and the Level III alert status remains in effect.
Airport Operations
Volcanic ash temporarily affected several airports in western Indonesia during the eruption period. According to the Ministry of Transportation, the affected airports reopened on 8 September 2026, with flight operations reported as normal in its 9 September update.
The airports previously affected included Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport and airports in Banten, West Java, Lampung and South Sumatra.
Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was not included in the Ministry of Transportation’s list of affected airports.
