New Digital Arrival Card Simplifies Travel to Laos

On 1 August 2025, the Lao Department of Immigration launched a Digital Arrival Card system to simplify entry procedures for international visitors. Currently in a trial period until the end of 2025, this new system replaces the traditional paper slips with a simple online form. The Digital Arrival Card is free to complete and does not replace a visa. Travelers who require a Visa on Arrival or e-visa must still arrange this separately.

Why it's better

Previously, travelers filled out paper arrival cards upon landing, which often caused longer queues at immigration counters.. With the digital system, visitors can now submit their information in advance and simply present a QR code on arrival. The aim is to save time, reduce queues, and create a smoother entry experience for travelers arriving in Laos.

How it works?

⚠️ Important Reminder: The Digital Arrival Card does not replace a visa. If your nationality requires a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or an e-visa, you must arrange this separately.

💡 Traveler Tip:  Save your QR code offline (screenshot or print). Wi-Fi connections may be unreliable at airports, and having it ready ensures a smooth entry.

Where it's accepted

The Digital Arrival Card can be used at the following entry points:

If travelers forget to complete the form in advance or face technical issues, paper slips will still be provided at immigration counters to ensure entry is not delayed. Just complete the form in advance, keep your QR code ready, and enjoy a smoother start to your trip.
