Taiwan is one of the most popular countries when it comes to gastronomic culture. However, most people associate Taiwanese food with street food in the night markets only and hardly mention the delicious, exquisite haute cuisine. Actually, there were many restaurants in Taiwan serving haute cuisine banquet food from the early 20th century through the 1960s and 1970s; however, many of these restaurants have faded away for various reasons. As a result, many specialty dishes have become extinct.
At the Mountain and Sea House, the restaurant puts efforts into passing on traditions and reviving the banquet cuisines of the 1930s in order to make more and more people remember the glory of Taiwanese cuisine. The restaurant offers elaborate Taiwanese dishes with a focus on flavor, using high-quality seasonal ingredients. Additionally, "farm- to-table" is the core concept of the restaurant, believing that local produce is the key to good cuisine.
Incorporating the architectural style of the 1930s and with complementing cutlery, Mountain and Sea House allows guests to enjoy exquisite, delightful Taiwanese food in a retro, luxurious, glamorous atmosphere. Some of the must-have dishes in the restaurant are roast suckling pig, deboned chicken braised in pork tripe, and fried rice with mullet roe.
The Mountain and Sea House has been awarded as a star restaurant by the "Michelin Guide" for three consecutive years since 2019 and was also awarded Michelin Green Stars for the first time in 2021. It is also on the list of "15 of the best things to do in Taiwan," released on November 3, 2022, by Lonely Planet.
