Keelung Miaokou Night Market

Keelung Miaokou Night Market sits on Rensan Road in Keelung City's Ren'ai District and is one of the few Taiwan night markets that runs continuously around the clock, with vendors operating almost 24 hours a day. The market originated organically from the gathering of pilgrims at the adjacent Dianji Temple, with the constant flow of worshippers over generations giving rise to a network of unique local specialties that exist nowhere else in Taiwan.

A day trip from Taipei Main Station takes about 50 minutes to reach Keelung Station, with a direct walk to the night market from there. The format works best as a half-day-into-evening experience, with daytime hours offering scenic views of Keelung Harbor and the city's port-town streets, transitioning into the market's most active period as the evening crowds build and the harbor lights come on.

Highlights

  • Ding Bian Cuo (Keelung Specialty): A signature Keelung dish where rice batter is poured onto the rim of a hot wok to form delicate rice noodles, then served in a savoury broth with seafood and pork. The dish is essentially unique to the Keelung Miaokou market.
  • Nutritious Sandwich (Yingyang Sanmingzhi): The market's iconic deep-fried sandwich, made with sweet bread filled with ham, tomato, cucumber, and pickled vegetables. Long-established stalls have served the dish for decades, giving Keelung a deep-fried street food signature distinct from Taipei's night markets.
  • Paopao Ice & Meat Thick Soup: The market's sweet and savoury anchors include Paopao Ice (a foam-textured shaved ice dessert) and Meat Thick Soup, a starchy soup with marinated pork strips that traces back to the port-worker meals that originally shaped Keelung's food culture.
  • Dianji Temple & Keelung Harbor: The temple at the heart of the night market is the historic origin point of the market itself, and the surrounding harbor walk provides a separate scenic dimension to the visit. The view from the harbor at night is the most photographed close to a Keelung evening.
