Bali’s mangrove forests protect coastal ecosystems by preventing erosion, reducing storm surges, and absorbing CO₂. They also serve as habitats for marine life, supporting biodiversity and local livelihoods. However, plastic waste pollution threatens these ecosystems, as trash from urban areas and tourism accumulates in mangrove roots. Unlike beaches, where waste is easily collected, mangroves trap plastic debris, making cleanup difficult. This pollution blocks waterways, disrupts nutrient flow, and harms marine life, endangering Bali’s coastal environment.
To address this issue, we have partnered with the R.O.L.E. Foundation’s ZeroWaste Center to increase awareness and implement better waste management practices. Through this collaboration, we actively work to protect Bali’s mangroves by learning sustainable waste disposal methods, supporting recycling initiatives, and educating local communities and businesses on the importance of mangrove conservation.
With this tour, we will learn about the vital role of mangroves in the ecosystem and explore how waste is managed in the area. Participants will gain insights into sustainable practices and waste processing methods, contributing to the health of the mangrove forests and the environment.
By protecting Bali’s mangrove forests, we are safeguarding the island’s coastal resilience, marine biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.
