Stories of Chinatown + Gardens Escape (Free & Easy)

This free-and-easy trail pairs the oldest corner of Singapore with its most futuristic garden. Mornings begin in Chinatown, at the city's oldest Hindu temple and a historic water well, before the afternoon opens up at Gardens by the Bay.

The walk moves between temples, shophouse streets and a working hawker centre, where the food and the crowd do the talking, then hands guests free time among the Supertrees and cooled conservatories. It balances guided heritage with unstructured exploring.

Highlights

  • Temples along the Chinatown Trail: The route takes in Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore's oldest Hindu temple, and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, a spiritual landmark of the district, tracing the layered faiths that shaped Chinatown within a few walkable streets.
  • Chinatown Heritage and the Ann Siang Well: Between the temples, the trail passes the Ann Siang Hill water well, a relic of the district's early days, and the historic shophouses and market stalls that still carry Chinatown's character through its narrow lanes.
  • Hawker Tastings in Chinatown: A stop at a busy hawker centre brings local flavours to the fore, with tastings among the stalls before free time to wander the surrounding streets, markets and souvenir shops at each guest's own pace.
  • Free Time at Gardens by the Bay: The afternoon transfers to Gardens by the Bay for a self-paced visit, taking in the Flower Dome, the misty Cloud Forest and the Supertree Grove, a modern counterpoint to the morning's heritage streets.
