Journey Through Nature and Spirit - The Karusotju Experience

Located in Banjar Biyahan, Wanagiri, Selemadeg, Tabanan, Talasi Estate is described as the home of Karusotju, a Balinese arak crafted in the Batukaru Mountains using a distillation process inspired by Japan’s traditional shōchū methods. The program begins with a welcome drink made from vinegar and honey and a snack of pisang rai with honey, before the trekking segment starts.

The route begins on flat paths through local fields and then shifts into more rugged forest terrain around Mount Batukaru. Trail context includes wildlife information at the start and a forest orchid identified along the way. After a moderate hike, the visit continues at the arak distillation site with lunch, a demonstration of traditional equipment such as a copper pot still, and an explanation of production using Cilembu sweet potatoes, including a stated 20 kg requirement for one 750 ml bottle. The experience concludes with a tasting of three varieties at 18%, 25%, and 38%, served using different temperatures and paired with carrot slices.
